I've been a bit tardy posting about Chris Sequeira's Dark Detective: Sherlock Holmes Issue 6,from Black House Comics, which has been in the shops for some weeks now. The lead story is "Christmas Cheer, Yuletide Fear", and it maintains the high standard this comic has been setting for some time now in terms of quality storyline as well as superb artwork. The colour covers on this issue, by Dave Elsey and Philip Cornell, are worth the price of admission on their own! Not only that, but there is a gallery of Holmes-related art by such local talents as W. Chew Chan, Jan Scherpenhuizen, Tim McEwen, Kurt Stone and Paul Mason.
The lead story is delivered in full glossy colour with colour 'Victorianization' and special effects by Dave Elsey. But the added bonus here is a text reprint of the story "The Adventure of the Haunted Showman" by John H. Watson, M.D. (edited by Christopher Sequeira). The story first appeared in the Holmes anthology Sherlock Holmes: The Game's Afoot (ed. David Stuart Davies, Wordsworth, 2009) and if you didn't read it there, this appearance provides another chance to experience this highly memorable tale of Holmesian detection and skullduggery. How the publishers can offer this product (30 pages of nearly full colour throughout) at only $5.95 Aust per issue is amazing.
As usual, highly recommended for both crime and horror fans!
